This team includes some excellent players that are surprisingly undervalued in the market. Even the bench players are available for under 2000 coins. With the overall value of the starting 11, you can afford a couple of big buys in key positions, but make sure you build a solid foundation first by following our FIFA 14 Ultimate Team guide.
This is the team I tend to use for the majority FIFA Ultimate Team matches. Any variation of the 4-3-3 formation will work because the Premier League is littered with quality central midfielders in any price range. Many of the defensive-minded players you would associate with the CDM position have switched to CM in FIFA 14, like Fellaini and Cabaye, which is why the this line-up opts for two CMs with a CAM. Using two CMs with high defensive stats gives your front four the freedom to attack without fear of being hit on the counter-attack.
Your front three (LW-ST-RW) must possess three qualities: crossing, strength and finishing. Lamela is an essential purchase for this team. 80 finishing and pace makes him great for both attacking down the flank and cutting inside to pepper the goal with shots. The same goes for Podolski, though he has low stamina, so you may want to rotate with another player from time to time. We recommend Steven Pienaar or Abel Hernandez, neither are spectacular, but serviceable for a couple of matches.
You have the option of one of two great Manchester City strikers, both available for around 1500 coins. Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo are both very strong with great finishing and heading numbers. Dzeko gets the starting nod because of his long-range finishing (84), but if you feel you’ll be using crosses as your main method of attack, go with Negredo, he has the slight edge for strength. I’ve been able to score some great goals with Dzeko from far outside the box, so look forward to the highlight reel. Be sure to send some of your goals to us on our social channels.
This team has an overall rating of 82 and 100 chemistry, with a good amount of green connections across the back four.
Fernandinho is on the bench only because he is a little expensive. If you can afford him, definitely look to add him to the team, especially against squads with a lot of pace.
Defensively, three of the four defenders have a high attacking work rate, but can counter this with their pace. If you prefer your defenders to stay back, then look to make some swaps, although you may have to sacrifice a bit of speed in the process.
